Today we drive to the sturdy old fort of Khimsar that is idyllically seated at the edge of the Thar Desert. Famous for its intricately worked balconies called ‘zenana’ on the women’s section of the fort, this fort has stood the test of time over 21 generations. Drive to Chandelao via Jodhpur. From Jodhpur we pedal down to Chandelao while taking in the views en route. The Mehrangarh Fort, called the ‘Citadel of the Sun’, stands proudly and boasts of the fact that it has never been taken siege. Home to thousands of kites, this fort is quite a spectacle, towering over the Blue City of Jodhpur. We then explore Jaswant Thada, Umaid Bhawan Palace, and the museum at the palace. In the morning we set out on a Jeep safari for a couple of hours to discover the countryside to experience the rustic life of Rajasthan. Visit the Bishnoi tribe, Meghawas ceramists and the Prajapat dhurrie carpet weavers. This stay is the best chance to explore this charming Rajasthani village.
